WordPress takes on Google’s AdSense with new WordAds service
Vola! One of the world’s foremost blogging platforms and content management systems, WordPress, is now allowing bloggers to make money via online advertising.
Popular Content Management System Company WordPress(Owned by Automattic) today announced that they are launching a new text based advertising service that will compete directly with Google’s Adsense.
WordPress host more that 24 million blogs and runs on 15% of the worlds most popular/traffic generator websites. WordPress in past (October) had alliance with Federated Media as advertising partner, however there was not much of the information that was released. Its seems this joint venture between Automattic and Federated Media has given birth to a new sensational and most awaited ad platform “WordsAds”
I myself is not quite aware of how with this model work, what’s in for us… however I can expect to function more of like the same as Google Adsense… giving a direct competition to Google. The only information that I have is as similar to Google’s Adsense even WordAds will pay to its Bloggers after blogger reaches the minimum amount of revenue generated (predefined by WordAds). Okie! I think there is still some confusion… I will give one example (for an example Google releases the check to a blogger when he generated minimum of $100 of revenue through Adsense).
Contrary to its name “WordAds” will mostly deal with Display Ads(banners, pictures and small amount of text based ads). This is very much similar like the module of Federated Media offering to some of its client. These ads will be displayed as per the type of content they have on their blog. The revenue can be generated through number of visits on the blog (pay per impression) or Pay Per Click (number of times someone clicks on the ad)
“Up until now, we’ve always focused on the feature functionality and less on the monetization side for the bloggers,” Burke told VentureBeat. “We wanted to approach the ad side in a way that still allows bloggers to focus on editorial and marketing.”
Important News: The company is currently taking signups for anyone who would like to participate in testing the new ad platform, which should launch in the first quarter of 2012, according to Burke.
